Celiac Disease: A digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate a protein called gluten, which is found in wheat, rye, and barley. When people with celiac disease eat foods containing gluten, their immune system responds by damaging the small intestine, specifically the villi.

Welcome to My Gluten-Free Baking Website!

Two years ago I had to relearn how to bake when we realized that my son and I needed to follow a gluten-free diet.  I decided that it would be best to keep our entire home free of gluten and have included my two older non-gluten-free children in this so that we could all eat the same foods without feeling deprived or risking cross-contamination.

Cooking regular meals wasn't particularly difficult to adapt to our new gluten-free guidelines, but the thought of making baked goods without wheat, rye, oats or barley was daunting.  At first, I tended to stick with premade, prepackaged foods and mail-ordered quite a bit of our special foods, but the cost was prohibitive and most of the food we tried was almost inedible.  Finally, I decided to try my hand at gluten-free baking...after all, could it really be much worse than what I was finding online or in the stores?

I have been pleasantly surprised with the results of my efforts and have launched this website to pass along some of our new favourite gluten-free recipes.  I've learned to love the pursuit of adapting an old favourite recipe and fine-tuning some existing gluten-free recipes to come up with results that are enjoyable and tasty.  These recipes have helped making gluten-free living easier for all of us and it's wonderful to feel like none of us are missing out on anything now.

I hope you enjoy these recipes and look forward to feedback once you've tried them!  Please check back for additional recipes as they're added!

Take care...

Colleen
